Support to Burmese Journalists

As part of our mission to foster, develop, and support journalism that exposes, and explains reality in areas of the globe where repression is the norm; our Executive Director and a member of our journalist collective traveled to Thailand to work with Burmese journalists and those covering the ongoing conflict in Myanmar (Burma).

After enduring a state-mandated quarantine, then responding to a local spike in coronavirus cases, followed by a resulting increase in local travel restrictions – our team worked tirelessly with local partners to ensure the trip’s objectives were met. The OME team successfully provided cutting-edge training and advanced media streaming equipment to journalists working on the ground to cover events within Myanmar (Burma). This is just the initial stage of an enduring effort to increase their technical and media literacy capabilities.

As Digital Authoritarian efforts increase, recently realized by the junta’s banning of satellite TV receivers and the shuttering of both the Myitkyina News Journal and The 74 Media – OME will serve as that counter, that protector of the Human Right to Information. We do this by providing support and pathways to enable the people of Burma’s story to be shared with the world.
